Future metro expansions
Council is exploring ways to expand Brisbane Metro across our city, to the north, east and south.
Brisbane Metro is expanding
Expanding Brisbane Metro will create greater reliability and connectivity of our mass transit network by:
- delivering high-capacity and high-frequency services
- connecting key precincts with our suburbs
- providing more travel options.
Business case
With the success of Brisbane Metro routes M1 and M2, Council is working with the Queensland and Federal governments to explore expanding Brisbane Metro to the north, east, further south and to the airport.
Council is seeking to engage with industry to identify opportunities that can be delivered in the short, medium and long-term to significantly improve public transport and help shape Brisbane’s future as our city continues to grow.
The business case will confirm alignment, depot locations, network improvements and delivery phasing for new metro routes.
New and extended metro routes
The business case will focus on 4 priority corridors:
- Southern Metro - CBD to Springwood: Complementing the extension of the South East Busway to connect to M1 at Eight Mile Plains busway station.
- Eastern Metro - CBD to Capalaba: Connecting central Brisbane, the eastern suburbs of Brisbane and neighbouring urban areas of Redland City Council.
- Northern Metro - CBD to Carseldine: Expanding services between central Brisbane and Lutwyche, Kedron, Chermside, Aspley and Carseldine.
- Airport Metro - CBD to Brisbane Airport: Creating new express connections between Brisbane’s international and domestic terminals and the CBD.
