Keeping Brisbane moving

In Brisbane, buses do the heavy lifting, carrying two-thirds of public transport customers. As our city continues to grow, we’re evolving our network and investing in smart solutions to keep Brisbane moving.

The new network, called Brisbane’s New Bus Network, will evolve the way we move as a city. We’re streamlining services and introducing Brisbane Metro to improve reliability and increase capacity to get you where you need to go at the times you want to travel.

Due to the size of our bus network, the new network is being introduced in stages to support you with navigating these changes.

When will network changes commence?

On 28 January 2025, we’ll begin introducing some network changes, including the launch of Brisbane Metro on the M2 route (previously known as Route 66) from UQ Lakes to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Network changes include:

  • permanent relocation of 7 routes from CBD busway stations to street level (Routes 425, P426, 430, 431, 435, P443, and 446)
  • relocation of Route 444 back to stop 1A (from 1C) in King George Square bus station
  • UQ Lakes station stop relocation of Routes 139 and 169 from Stop B to Stop D
  • implementation of district (school) services, including changes to some routes.

To plan your journey, visit the Journey Planner on the Translink website, phone 13 12 30, or download the MyTranslink app.

What's next

The next stage of changes for Brisbane’s New Bus Network will take place in the second quarter of 2025, alongside the permanent introduction of Brisbane Metro on route M1 (Eight Mile Plains to Roma Street).

This stage will involve the largest uplift to our bus network in over a decade and will involve new ways for you to move, including:

  • transferring as part of your journey
  • new routes on the network or your usual service may have a different route number
  • using a different service from the one you currently use
  • buses may pick up or drop off at a different locations.

Council is working closely with Translink to prepare for this next phase of network changes.
